In scenes described as “extraordinary” and “disgusting”, a Chinese delegation forced the Australian government to evict Taiwanese visitors from a key international summit held in Perth last week.
The opening of the four-day international conference, which was focused on tackling the illegal diamond trade, had to be suspended when the Chinese delegation grabbed a microphone and started loudly heckling the Taiwanese delegation during the official indigenous Welcome to Country ceremony.
Although Taiwan maintains it is an independent state, China claims the island as its own and does not recognise Taiwan’s right to attend international summits as a separate country.
Officials were later “forced” to eject the Taiwanese “at the behest of the Chinese delegates” reports Fairfax Media.
One high-level Australian attendee said “It was disgusting It was extraordinary, so uncalled for and so inappropriate, and so disrespectful.”
We agree that this is an appalling way to behave, but this is what happens when you sell off Australia bit by bit. The fact that our government bowed down to Chinese demands again just goes to show that as far as China is concerned, we are not a sovereign nation.
